Certificates, Letters and Proclamations

Certificates and Awards

Certificates are issued by the Office of the Governor to recognize individuals for their contributions to the State of North Carolina. The goal is to honor individuals who have made a significant impact towards creating a better North Carolina.

  • Certificates are issued only to North Carolina citizens.
  • The honoree must have made a direct contribution to North Carolina.
  • The nominator and the nominee cannot be the same person.
  • The Governor's Office reserves the right to rescind a certificate if false or misleading information was provided in the nomination application.

To request a certificate complete a certificate request form and email it to certificates@nc.gov or mail to:

Note: Certificate requests must be submitted 4 weeks prior to the date needed (in order to properly consider each request.) If the request is not received in a timely manner, we cannot guarantee receipt as requested.

Letters

Letters of recognition are issued by the Office of the Governor to recognize special occasions for individuals such as Anniversaries, Birthdays and Retirements. To request a letter, please submit a letter request form and email it to letter.requests@nc.gov or mail to:

Please allow three weeks for the letter to be delivered.

Proclamations

Proclamations are issued by the Office of the Governor to recognize special events or significant issues. The goal of a proclamation is to honor and celebrate events or to increase awareness of significant issues of importance to North Carolinians.

  • Proclamations may recognize a day, week or month.
  • Proclamations are issued only to North Carolina citizens, agencies and organizations. Out-of-state requests will not be honored.
  • Proclamations are not issued in honor of individuals or organizations.
  • Proclamations must have statewide significance.
  • Only one official copy of a proclamation is provided. If duplicate requests are made, the first request will be honored. Any subsequent copies will be prepared at a charge of $7.00 each.
  • Proclamations are not automatically renewed. Requests must be made on an annual basis.
  • All proclamations, once finalized, are posted on the Office of the Governor website.
  • The issuance of a proclamation does not constitute an endorsement by the Governor.

To request a proclamation complete a proclamation request form. Submit the form and draft language for the proclamation to proclamations@nc.gov or mail to:

Requests should be submitted 6-8 weeks in advance. Requests will be considered by the Proclamations Committee, and you will be notified of a decision in a timely manner.
